Full Coverage Swimsuit
Finnegan Shepard Founder of Both&
Our tagline at Both& is “Not all bodies fit the binary. Not all clothing should, either.” When it comes to swimwear, there is an insane cultural assumption that women should default to wearing extremely exposing swimwear. Regardless of how you identify, it should be totally normal and okay to wear full coverage bathing suits or high coverage swimsuits. This is true for cis women as well as trans, nonbinary, and gender queer folks.
To be clear, there are a lot of different styles for full cover swimsuits. There are also a lot of different motivations behind looking for a full cover swimming suit. Some of the common motivations include:
- Feeling more comfortable in swimwear that is less exposing.
- Protecting skin against the sun.
- Not identifying with the hyper-femme presentation of exposing women’s swimwear. (If you want to read a great article about gender neutral swimwear, we recommend this one).
Some people are interested in one piece full coverage swimsuits, some are looking for full coverage two piece swimsuits. Some want to present as super femme, but within the context of a women’s full coverage bathing suit. Others want their swimwear to have more masc or androgynous elements to it. Some are simply looking for a swimsuit with back coverage to protect against the sun.
In this blog, we are going to provide examples of each cute full coverage bathing suits and point you to the best brands designing swimsuits with coverage.
Examples of full coverage swim suits
First off, if you google ‘men’s full coverage swimwear’ you will get very different results than if you search for ‘full coverage swimsuits for women.’ We want to gently point out that you don’t have to stick to binary categories, and that many great full coverage swim options are more gender neutral in style.
But putting that aside, let’s show some examples.
Here are some great full coverage two piece bathing suits:
We like this one for its neutral, comfortable vibe. This swimwear also clearly has sun protection in mind:
